Letter from the Sculptor of the
The Johnny O'Keefe Monument, King of Australian Rock and Roll.
"THE WILD ONE."

June 2004

I would like to let you know that on Thursday June 10th at 11.30am there was held an
Unveiling Ceremony of the 5 metre tall Monument, created by Kolozsy, sculptor at
Coolangatta/Tweed Heads, Twin Towns Services Club.

Over a thousand people attended. As the sculpture was Unveiled by Mayor Warren Polglase
and John "Catfish" Purser, Johnny O'Keefe's music was played. "SHOUT"- the crowd
clapped and sang, then when the curtain dropped, the sculpture was greeted with a large
clapping and cheering from the crowd of family, colleagues, friends and fans.

This was during the lead up to WINTERSUN Annual Rock and Roll Festival. Media
Coverage included TV News Reports, Radio Interviews and Newspaper (Front page) Reports.

On the evening of June 10th the Celebration Concert was sold out. Audience joined with
the performers to sing their favourite Johnny O'Keefe songs, in one spirit.

Since the Unveiling huge crowds are visiting the area all day long, taking photographs and
admiring the image. According to the Johnny O'Keefe Memorial Foundation- "This is and
will be the central feature of all future annual Rock and Roll Festivals in years to come."
